This bright and vibrant coffee comes to us from the Kayanza Province of Burundi through our friends at Homage Coffee Source. Kayanza is home to the Munkaze Washing Station, where this coffee was processed. The natural process, while riskier for producers, has the potential to bring out immense sweetness and rich, syrupy fruit notes in coffees.
Thanks in large part to Ephrem Sebatigita, the manager of the washing station, this coffee does just that, highlighting the diligent work of producers and his expertise in processing spectacular coffees. Ephrem is accomplished in many sectors including holding a master’s degree in electrical engineering, but his dream is to start a coffee academy for farmers to learn more about processing and cupping coffees. We’re honored to showcase the hard work of the people of Kayanza and the diligent intentionality of Homage Coffee Source.

We’re honored to partner with Catalyst Trade to bring to you this wonderfully delicate, washed Ethiopian coffee. Catalyst Trade truly has a heart for people and an ear to the ground in Ethiopia. This coffee was processed by their partners at the Mekonissa washing station in the Kellenso Mekonissa village. Mekonissa provides 12 full time jobs and 250 seasonal jobs for the people in the region. The coffee cherries, here, ripen slowly under the shade of bamboo and avocado trees, among others. After the coffee is harvested, smallholder producers bring their ripe cherries to Mekonissa for processing. This organic certified coffee is meticulously processed to highlight sweetness, acidity, and florality.
The Mekonissa washing station operates ethically and responsibly to serve their community and the hardworking people whom they employ. One of many reasons why we’re proud to offer this coffee is for Mekonissa’s C.A.F.E practices certification, which demands regulations such as gender equity training and no child labor. This is our first coffee from Catalyst Trade, and we greatly look forward to working alongside them to bring incredible, ethically sourced Ethiopian coffees to you for years to come.
