We’re proud to offer this fresh harvest from the Jiwaka Province of Papua New Guinea. Coffee is their second-largest export and employs nearly half of the country’s population. With over 800 languages in Papua New Guinea, communication is a real barrier to widespread progress and innovation in the country. Thankfully, our partners are working diligently with locals to ensure that training is taking place and that business is being done ethically.
This rich, sweet coffee is hand-picked and processed at the Amuliba Estate in Banz. Shortly after the newly established independence of Papua New Guinea in 1975, Philip Kapal, leader of the Tsekaka Clan, took over ownership of the Amuliba Estate and still operates it to this day. The estate purchases coffee from local small-holder farmers and either processes the coffee for them or allows the farmers to maintain ownership over the coffee through the exporting process. This coffee is carried by its bright acidity and enveloped with a pleasant syrupy sweetness, making it a very smooth and easy-drinking coffee.
REGION: Pu’er, Yunnan
ELEVATION: 1600-1650 MASL
PROCESS: Fully Washed and Sun-Dried
TASTING NOTES: Plum, Coconut, Floral
This surprising cup of coffee will knock you off your feet. Don’t let your inexperience with coffee from China throw you, this is a cup you will love. We are honored to be able to showcase this roast and be a part of the story of coffee in Yunnan. Because coffee is a growing industry and resource in China, education, and support to farmers are vital. Our partners on the ground are doing extensive work to equip and encourage farmers and local processing teams to ensure that the highest quality product is being produced year after year and bringing sustainable income to the region.
