Intentional relationship that leads to better coffee is a pillar in our ethos toward sourcing green coffee. It is our honor to share with you all this micro-lot from our new partners in Guatemala, Yepocapa Coffee. The team at Yepocapa firmly believe in forming intentional, long-lasting relationships within the community of San Pedro Yepocapa. A guiding principle of theirs is to show farmers that their work and their lives have purpose.
One of those farmers is Don Evaristo Charuc, who has produced coffee for Yepocapa since 2015. Don Evaristo’s family has been farming coffee for generations; his grandparents would even pray over each seed as they planted them into the soil. He shares his family’s love for coffee farming and hopes the generations to come can experience the joys of the trade. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2018, Don Evaristo’s farm was damaged by hot ash from the eruption of the local Volcan de Fuego. He wasn’t able to produce enough coffee that year to fill a bag. In redemptive fashion, his coffee trees were able to recover and this year he produced an incredible harvest! This sweet, clean coffee is sure to be everyone’s new favorite!

"Don Evaristo is one of the main producers behind this lot. He’s also one of the initial 12 farmers that signed up to enter their coffees into our first ever “Farmers Select” lot back in 2015/2016. We’ve gotten the chance to visit his land 5-6 times now and each time we visit, he says the same thing. “Whenever you come to Guatemala, know that you’re welcomed to Yepocapa. The valley of honey.”
Don Evaristo shared with us once that he’s saddened that much of the next generation isn’t interested in continuing farming. He understands that much of their reasoning has to do with profitability reasons but “to work out in the fields, it’s wonderful and amazing” he says. Don Evaristo’s joy and hospitality are easily noticeable. It’s easy to strike up conversation with him even if your spanish isn’t that good.
When it comes to his coffees, the Las Nubes lot has been our top lot two years in a row. Even though he lost much of his harvest during the volcano eruption in 2018, the few bags La San Pedrana was able to process for the 2019-2020 harvest were amazing. Of course, he did it again for the 2020-2021 harvest!"
