DEMEKA BECHA WASHING STATION

From the first time we sampled this coffee in 2020, we knew that we had something special. Demeka Becha comes to us from one of Ayele Tulu's washing stations in the village of Becha in the Sidama region, marking a much-anticipated return to our catalog after three years away. Ayele, along with his wife, Genet Haile Endeshow, and their son, Tsegab Ayele, own several washing stations in the Bona Zuria District, giving them significant influence over the success of this renowned coffee-growing region.

Our experience with coffees from this washing station has always been full of complexity. We taste lots of florals and the iconic tea-like personality that coffees from this region are widely known for, but what really stands out to us is the depth of sweetness they hold. You’ll know you've hit the sweet spot in your brewing when those Earl Grey and jasmine tea notes come through, as they’re enveloped with a sweetness that is bright and fruit-like, yet rich like honey.

A once staple offering of the Non-Fiction sourcing portfolio, we are so excited to see the return of such a beautiful coffee from Bona Zuria, Sidama, Ethiopia. We were first introduced to this coffee from our friends Emily and Michael McIntyre, back in 2020. Together they have cultivated relationships in the coffee producing world with the utmost respect and care for the producers they come to represent. To refer to them simply as committed buyers of the coffees they source would be a massive understatement. Emily and Michael, of Swift Coffee Source, cultivate deep and meaningful relationships at origin. This is the main reason why we are able to see and taste this coffee again and so we want to be sure to spotlight that and thank them for their impactful relationship foundations that continue to mark their work in the world of specialty coffee.
